Green Collect delivers highly engaging waste education sessions either as incursions (in school) or excursions to our Braybrook recycling site. The program takes students on a journey towards zero waste, exploring natural resources, materials, and how items can be reused, upcycled or recycled through through technology, design and innovation.

Pre-School Incursions (Upcycle Kids)

Kindergarten incursions include an ‘upcycling’ challenge for children to creatively explore ways to make new items from old.

Kindergarten incursions include an ‘upcycling’ challenge for children to creatively explore ways to make new items from old.

Through story, song and hands-on learning, we help children gain a deeper understanding of materials, and how they can be used again and again through upcycling and recycling. Children learn that waste items can become resources that we use over and over again. By the end of the workshop they'll be seeing 'rubbish' as a precious and fun resource. The sessions includes creative play using reclaimed art and craft supplies sourced from our corporate waste collections service.

Note: Green Collect can also supply bulk lots of cardboard, small electronics, CDs and covers, and stationery - all salvaged from office waste. Let us know what you need, and we can bring it with us to the incursion. These items can be used for your craft or ‘tinker’ areas - engaging children with creative and challenging play.  You can also order bulk lots of single items, like electronics or CDs!

Primary School Incursions and Excursions

Students are introduced to the life-cycle journey of common office items as they transition from natural resources, to raw materials, to the products we use everyday in offices and homes. They then engage in discovering how we can continue the life of unwanted products through re-using, remaking (upcycling) and recycling. The incursions are available for Prep to Grade 6 and include a hands-on ‘upcycle challenge’ during which the students use design skills, materials knowledge, and sustainability awareness to take used materials and remake them into a new, useful item.

Excursions are a fun and engaging visit to Green Collect’s warehouse in Braybrook, Melbourne, a functioning sort facility where discarded products are assessed and categorised to be reused, remade and recycled. Available for school students Grade 4 - Grade 6, students take a tour of Green Collect’s warehouse and discover how we find the best environmental outcomes for items discarded by offices. The tour is followed by an engaging session exploring materials and the life-cycle of products.

Secondary School Incursions and Excursions

  • Social enterprise and business development

  • Environmental management

  • Systems - rethinking waste to incorporate reuse, remake and recycle.

  • Design - upcycling and re-making

  • Technology - materials and sustainability

  • Waste reduction through better design
